Whenever I buy packaged, pre-mixed trail mix there is always one or two items in the mix that do not get eaten. Lately, I have been making my own trail mix and the best part about it is nothing goes to waste. My go-to recipe includes: Dried cranberries, cashews, almonds, pumpkin seeds and pretzels. Five or more different items adds variety and color to your mix, and that much more fun to snack on! Make a giant batch, store in mason jars and take out portions as needed. It’s a DIY version that is so much more tasty and affordable than the pre-packaged kind.

I’ve always liked to graze on small meals during the day instead of having three big meals. Snacks such as this trail mix keep me energized throughout the day without crashing. The protein and carb combination is great for everything from post workout to a mid day slump, and you can keep a small jar of this mix basically anywhere. Keep a jar at the office and in your gym bag, so you’re never ravenous or hangry. No body wants to be hangry.
